Update: Summer Baseball (6/2/2020)
Blaine Baseball Families –
The Dugout Club held its annual meeting tonight (Tuesday, June 2). The prospect for summer baseball was chief among the discussions. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented significant challenges for organized baseball, not the least of which is the unpredictability of what will happen next with the virus, how and when the State of Minnesota will adjust its guidance to allow for games, and who will be willing to insure or accept liability for a program this summer.
With all these factors in mind and following thoughtful conversation among the members, the Dugout Club voted unanimously to NOT PROCEED with organized baseball for the summer season. This includes cancellation of the Blaine VFW tournament for 2020.
This is an incredibly difficult decision for all of us who love baseball dearly and deeply. We hope that players continue to use these summer months to develop and grow to the best of their abilities, and keep their eyes open for opportunities to play baseball in the fall. The one constant with COVID-19 is that things change quickly, and we are fully committed to keeping you updated on opportunities as we see them. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or ideas.
The second major set of decisions was to elect a new board, and we are pleased to announce the following returning and new members to the Dugout Club leadership group for the 2020-2021 season:
We couldn’t be more thrilled with the engagement, patience and support of all parents and players during this challenging time. There are better days ahead, and Blaine Baseball is in a great place for future success.
Stay safe and be well.
